Why Seam Planning Matters Before Artificial Grass Installation

A good artificial grass installation starts before the turf is unrolled. One detail that can easily be overlooked is seam planning.

For larger areas, several turf rolls may need to be joined together. Planning the roll direction and seam positions in advance can make installation easier and help create a cleaner finished surface.

Keep the Pile Direction Consistent

Artificial grass fibers naturally lean in one direction after production and rolling. When two pieces are installed in different directions, they may reflect light differently and appear to be different shades of green.

Before cutting or joining the turf, installers should check the pile direction and keep adjacent rolls facing the same way.

Plan Seams Before Cutting

A site drawing can help determine where each roll will be positioned and where the seams will fall.

Good planning can reduce unnecessary cuts, avoid very narrow turf strips and make better use of the available material.

For irregular areas, it is especially useful to confirm the layout before installation begins.

Pay Attention to the Joint

When joining two turf pieces, the edges should meet naturally without excessive overlap or a visible gap. Jointing tape and suitable artificial turf adhesive can then be used according to the installation requirements.

After joining, the fibers around the seam can be brushed to help create a more uniform appearance.

For artificial grass projects, careful seam planning is a small step that can make a noticeable difference to both installation efficiency and the final result.
